Using glow necklaces for wedding decoration?
19 Feb 2009
I was wondering if anyone had ever experimented with using glow necklaces (the kind you can buy in bulk for cheap, or at events like halloween or marti gra) to light up flower vases for wedding reception centerpieces. I just need to know if they are waterproof.
I'd want to fill the vases with a vase-filler solution (the kind you buy at craft stores) put the floral arrangement in it, and then ad the activated glow necklace.
Has anyone tried this before? Do you think it will work? Thanks for your advice!
they are waterproof I have never used them to light up flower vases but used to make the kids who wanted to go swimming when it was close to dark wear them. Sounds very interesting if done right, we are using led lit spheres and light up drink fountains. Never thought of glowsticks

2009 Feb 20 1I've never done this myself but it sounds like a great idea and yes they are waterproof so it shouldn't be a problem.

2009 Feb 20 2That would look very weird. They make LED lights for floral use and submersion, check your local craft store. The LED lights are made for floral crafting. http://www.save-on-crafts.com/floralytes4.html

2009 Feb 20 3okay i don't want to be a "debbie downer"here but think about what you wrote"the kind you can buy in bulk for cheap-or Halloween or Mardi Gras" i think that should tell you maybe you should rethink this idea,it m sounds fun for a party .but keep your wedding classy-you won't be sorry.but if you choose to ignore this advice yes they're water proof (i used them at a night time pool party last year .congratulations anyway.

2009 Feb 20 4it depends on what kind of effect you're going for.
I went to a reception thrown by some aging ravers and they used the glowstix and necklaces. The theme of the reception was their last rave.
if it's a casual party, then go for it.
if you're looking for something more formal or elegant then go with the submersible LED lights.
(you'll wind up spending the same amount of money either way, so money shouldn't be an issue)

2009 Feb 20 5I have seen pictures of that done on the internet. If you do it right, no one can tell that they are the cheap kind. Also, depending on what vase filler solution you use, it will hide the casing and you will only see the soft glow of light. You can then throw them away afterwards and not worry that you spent so much. The submersible floral LED lights are not cheap. For what you are doing, just adding the glow of the lights, they will work fine. If I can find a pic later, I'll post it for you.
Kudos to you for thinking outside the box.
