Since I have seen a lot of this lately in the knot.com having a black and white wedding, we chose those colors for an elegant look. We are stuck on what to do for centerpieces. Any suggestions would be great!
i love the idea of getting tall black and white candles, in different shapes and heights, and wrapping the opposite color ribbon around the center of the candle. i.e. a black pillar candle, with white satin ribbon tied around it's "waist".
i also love hte idea of pictures, in black frames, all different kinds of frames, scattered about the tables, it gives the guest something to look at while they mingle.
here is a really really cute favor idea. I LOVE THIS IDEA! http://www.favorideas.com/shopping/prod/SE13800.htm
good luck, hope this helps! :]

2009 Feb 18 3A mirror with a hurricane candle holder with a black ribbon glued around it with white rose petals scattered on the mirror. With a white rose tucked into a black napkin at each place setting. Black branches in a tall vase with white flowers & or ornaments or other decoravtive elements such as crystals. Black and white wrapped favors on black tulle with little white crystals. I found this fabric at Hancock Fabrics. Some other design elements to consider battery powered white twinkle lights on or even under the table will make an evening event glow. Pearls from the dollar store might be used as napkin rings. We used black and white napkins to create "tuxedos " to present the french bread in for one event. Some couples are using feather bouquets instead of flowers. Alot of dried plant material can be spray painted and add (chunky ice type or finer) clear or black and white glitter. A miniature individual black and white wedding cake for each table.

2009 Feb 18 6I just saw someone do this and it looked amazing. They took really tall and wide vases and filled the bottom with stones (you could find black and white ones) they filled them with water and put flowers in it that held up under water. They also put fish in it.
It looked really unique. I looked for some pictures but couldn't find any that look like what I'm talking about.
They didn't do this, but I think it would look even better if you had some candles around the vases to give it a more elegant feel.
Anyway, that's just one idea. Good luck!

2009 Feb 18 7My friend did this :
She had crystal bowls with water and floated tea light candles and peonies (her main flower) in them. At the bottom of the bowl were black and clear crystals. Under the bowl was a mirror and on the mirror were 4-6 votive candles.
It was amazing !! The effect of the candle light making the black and clear crystals sparkle was just beautiful !!

2009 Feb 18 8These were my colors too, I wanted to add a color to give it a nice look and to use in my flowers. I picked pink. It looked really nice. I got really good feedback from guests. Here is the link to how my centerpieces were set up.

2009 Feb 18 9Hi. I get the black and white theme, but not sure what you mean by "bride and groom" theme.
Anyway, here is a link to some votives that look like they are "wrapped" with a black tux and a white bridal gown — cute! They are favors, but, of course, you could use them on the tables instead.

The only thing I can think of for a "bride and groom" theme, would be to have a bride & groom cake topper on each table with the votives mentioned above next to it. This would be awfully expensive though. Here is a link to a cake topper, but there are lots out there:

If you just want the black and white theme, that is easy! You could go with a black bud vase and a single white rose in each (with a few greens). Then put down some white votives. For a real dramatic look, you can always do a black tablecloth, white napkins, then a white vase with a white rose (or another white flower that you like.) Good luck!
