Bridesmaid Gifts at The Knot Wedding Shop

I want really want to make our wedding unique. Whether its a decoration, favor, picture, centerpiece, invitation, etc. - we're looking for something the guests will never forget (we're not looking for any crazy wedding themes though). Any ideas? Thanks.

I had a few things that the family is still raving about:

A harpist that played during cocktail hour and dinner

I also got the wedding photos from both sides of our familes from grandparents to siblings, scanned them to the computer. Then we were able to touch up and print them the size we wanted and had them framed and scattered on our cake table. Partly because both my parents were deceased as well as most of our grandparents and this was a way to honor all of the love in our families

I made place cards for everyone, but since I don't like assigned seating they were to be used as a 'save a seat'. I can remember going to weddings and all the ladies purses were spread all over a table to save seats or chairs tilted. Then each place setting had pens inscribed with our names and date in our colors. After dinner everyone was asked to take the place cards and pens and write us a note on the inside, then place the cards in a footed crystal vase I had in the lobby. This also took the place of a sign in book. I had some interesting comments from some people :) . The pens also served as practical favors - 5 yrs later we recently went to a wedding and 2 of my Aunt's pulled theirs from their purses to show me they still have and use them! I bought the pens online for something like 16 cents per! Can't beat that, and they were practical and useful.

Our wedding was the day before Mother's Day (which was going to be my first without my Mom who passed 11 mos prior), so we called all the Mothers to the dance floor and my flower girls passed out flowers to all of them. We then asked for everyone else to come up and dance with the Mothers, whether it was their own Mom, the Mother of their children, or just someone who they knew is a Mom to someone, somehow. It was sweet, I danced with my Grandmother and then my new stepdaughters danced with me. We had 'Wind Beneath My Wings' played and there wasn't a dry eye in the place.

Is there a favorite entertainer, local celebrity or performer in your area? Maybe a band that you and your fiance really enjoy? At my wedding a few weeks ago, we surprised everyone the last hour of the reception with a comedian/singer that is fairly well-known in the area. We kept it a secret all the way til he arrived. Everyone was already having a good time and when he showed up to perform, everyone said it put the fun over the top!

There are some fun ideas out there. One is instead of throwing rice, give everyone a little box as they come out of the church. When you exit they open it and butterflies escape and are filling the air. Then there is the throwing of rose pedals. Or even throwing confetti. Some fun ideas for the tables are little votive candles at each guest setting. They take those home. Another is to give each guest (or family) a disposable camera. You develop the pictures and you have your pick of the pictures first. You can also give each guest a candle when they enter the church. As the ceremony ends they light them as you leave. (It is beautiful in pictures) Tape a lottery ticket ($1 or $2 tickets) under each guest's plate. When the bride and groom leave the reception to leave for their honeymoon or their hotel, it is nice to give something special to their parents. A beautiful picture frame to put the wedding picture of their choice in, or even a night at a local hotel so that they do not have to deal with anything that evening, or even just a lovely card thanking them for giving you the day you've always dreamed about. I hope these are some ideas that you were looking for.

My cousin had small treasure chests with pearls and flowers as their centerpiece. It wasn't crazy pirate themed, it was just very suttle yet artsy.

I hate to say it but there aren't too many unique or original ideas out there anymore. Also, maybe I'm a pessimists, but guests won't remember the favours, the band, the food, etc any more than someone else's wedding - they'll remember the feelings at your wedding, the love, etc.

Don't try to make your wedding stand out. If you love an idea but it's the most cliched idea out there, who cares? Do it because you love it and not because you're trying to impress someone else.

I know that's not what you're looking for, but it's just my opinion.
