I'm helping the Chamber of Commerce with the decorations for their upcoming installation dinner (installation of the new board members). It's kind of fancy, the Governor is the guest speaker and me and my partner want to do a good job, but we have no (or very little, meaning our own) funds.
I'm going to visit goodwill and see whatI can find and she's going to call a few stores and (try to) get donaions. But we have to come up with a CHEAP idea for the centerpiece because even if we do get donations, we will have to pitch in a bit…
What cheap ideas do you have for a center piece?
The tables will sit 10 people (25 tables total), so the centerpiece can't be small
thanks you!! ![]()

2009 Feb 22 3How much do you have to spend? Ideally, you should do real or silk flowers. If you can't afford that (and it sounds like you can't….lol), Just get creative. How about goldfish? They cost .10 cents a piece…you could put a couple in a big bowl with some water.
Or floating candles? Big bowl witha little water, and 3 or 4 candles per table? The candles will cost you a couple of dollars each (depending on what they are…a big rose is a lot more than a little circle).
Or how about a large, 3 wick candle on a piece of mirror, or a nice plate? I've seen big candles being sold at the dollar store. You could even do several candles of various sizes? Michaels sells really cheap candles….They range from 1-3$ depending on their size.
Then you could sprinkle confetti on the table, or whatever….

2009 Feb 22 4What's the venue? Where are you located (what state/city)? That might be helpful to know. Otherwise, check out betterhomesandgardens.com or any of the other ladies' mags for free ideas. You can also get cheap stuff at orientaltrading.com – maybe nothing for this event but being involved with the chamber, it may come in handy some day!

2009 Feb 22 5Get small potted plants that have some sort of bloom. They will be attractive and perfect for this time of year. This will be little work for you. You might get a deal at a supermarket that has a floral shop. You could even give them away at they end of the meeting. Another idea is to get a florist to "lend" you the flowering plants for the meeting and also give the attendees a chance to purchase the plant. It is good advertising for the florist.

2009 Feb 22 6Maybe,This isn't the best Idea for a meeting, but it sure would be different. The Vases they sell at walmart,Pat catan even the dollar store,I often see them at the second hand store(people got tired of them I guess. That is the Betta Fish Vase with colorful marbles or stones on the bottom with the plant on top of the vase, and of course don't forget the fish.

2009 Feb 22 7Does the Chamber have coffee cups with the Chamber Logo on them? If so, you could make a pyramid of coffee cups in the center. Not enough Chamber Cups? Then see if the chamber members have coffee cups with their business logos (free advertising for them). Still not enough cups? Go to a local flea market and see how many coffee cups they have with business logos on them. Then build your pyramids, add some flowers or greenery. At the end of the evening, tell everyone to take a coffee cup home.

2009 Feb 22 8Flags with a couple carnations. It's near memorial day, it's also election season and a war is on. it's just an idea but it's cheap and easy to do. Or just flags together in a centerpiece of nato. then simple tags folded to name out who sits where printed out on a printer program on pc in some gorgeous font and ink.
