how to make tall centerpieces?
12 Mar 2009
I already have the really tall eiffel tower vases but im having a really hard time making them look nice and full. I have no floral experiece so I dont even know what to use. Do I use foam, wire, etc? How is it done? any websites with instructions would be very helpful. Thank you!
we are using the same vases for our centerpieces.
since i don't have access to florist supplies i am putting my own spin on making them
i am
using 5" styrofoam balls. put 1 on top of the vase and with a marker- mark the area just outside of the top of the vase
should be a square if yours are like mine
with a sharp knife- carve out the square- make it about 2 inches deep
stick it on the vase to make sure it's the right size and won't wobble
cover it with spanish moss or other green moss (use floral picks found in craft stores to secure it)
put it back on top of the vase and start placing your flowers
if you are using silks they will stick and stay
if you are using fresh you might want to put wire up the stem or wrap the stem with wire to give support to the flowers
what kind of flowers are you using? i can help more with a lil more info. email me if you need more help
this is mainly the look i'm going for for ours just not using as many flowers. i am also using silks, gerbers, tulips, roses and fillers. spanish moss and ivy too

2009 Mar 12 2bring your vases to a local craft supply store. The floral department should be able to show you different things you can do and all the materials you'll need. Just try to go when its not busy-definately not on the weekend. Then they'll have plenty of time to show you how to do it. If you have a hobby lobby near you they are the best and have great florals.

2009 Mar 12 3I am having eiffel tower vases as well but I am not doing them, the florist is. I am only having 3 roses in them (fresh) but she is using bear's grass for fullness and a draping effect. The eiffel tower vases we are using only have a very small opening hence the reason for three flowers but if your opening is large enough what Natalie suggested sounds great.

2009 Mar 12 4well, it is something you have to try and see.
i have learned that foam can help to stablize tall things.
but can also take away from the beauty if the foam is able to be seen. you can use dental floss or fine string to tie them or bread ties if needed. I use bread ties for some flower arrangements. it depends on the size and style of the vase or piece used. do you have a picture of it?
