How To Plan A Wedding

He said will you, you said yes. Now what? If you want the wedding of your dreams, you have a lot of work ahead of you. These tips should help keep you calm and organized as you plan the most important day of your life.

Make the Announcement

These days it is easier than ever to spread the word. Unless you really want to, you no longer need to go to the effort of a formal newspaper announcement. You can spread the word as simply as tweeting your message to the world.

Letting people know about your big day is not just about your own vanity and wanting the world to fuss over you. Okay, who doesn’t want that? All of your family and friends with have their own preparations to make, from buying clothes and presents to losing weight before your big day.

Get Started on the Planning Straight Away

As a new bride-to-be, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and expect that the world revolves around you alone. Sadly, there are thousands of other women planning their wedding at the same time – most of them feeling exactly the same way. This means that there are potentially thousands of people competing for the same venue, catering companies, dresses and accessories. By planning ahead, you can make sure that you aren’t the bride-to-be who misses out on her first choice.

How to Get and Stay Organized

It’s fine to tell a bride to plan ahead, but many people have no idea how to do it. The first thing you should do to get organized is go to your local stationery or book store and buy yourself a notebook. This journal or notebook will be something you want to keep after your wedding, so make sure it’s something special. You may want to buy yourself a special pen as well.

It is in this notebook that you will record everything that you will need to know or remember for your wedding, from phone numbers and websites through to pictures or dresses and flower arrangements and contact details for friends and family. Important information like your future mother-in-law’s dress size and the special needs of your bridal party should also be recorded in your notebook. You can do this with your favorite PDA or your cell phone, but twenty years from now, when the battery has long since vanished, so will your memories.

To many people, this seems like a lot of extra work. But wait until you desperately need to get in touch with your caterer or florist a few days before your wedding and you can’t remember where you stored his card. A notebook will become your number one, sure-fire, bride-zilla prevention kit.

Good Communication

Communication is a two-way street. It’s not just about what you say, but how others interpret your words. In the world of weddings that mean that you must get everything in writing. Always make sure to get a written quote and/or receipt for work done or promises of delivery, and keep those receipts and quotes in your notebook. Make sure you contact your vendors as your wedding day approaches to ensure there are no problems or delays likely to cause problems. When possible, do this follow-up via email so that you have the confirmation in writing.
