Fashions In Wedding Dresses

The dress a woman wears at her wedding is usually for that occasion alone; a man may choose to wear his wedding suit again at a different function. A girl will rarely spend as much on an item of clothing as she will on her wedding dress. Young girls’ dreams about their magical wedding day often revolve around a wondrous dress. The huge range of wedding dresses and accessories available today makes it impossible not to find something that suits you. Lady Diana’s silk taffeta gown, created by the Emmanuals, is a typical inspiration for brides who wish to return to the traditional style.

Because white wedding dresses have traditionally symbolised innocence and purity, modern women are happy to choose a less unflattering colour like ivory. Because a white wedding dress could not be washed and used again, it was widely regarded in the first part of the 20th century as a sign of wealth. This idea was strengthened in the late 1920′s when Coco Chanel popularised the white wedding dress by wearing a short dress with a full veil.

The traditional wedding dress is likely to be a jewel encrusted luxury fabric such as duchesse satin, organza and silk. Styles in wedding dresses cover the entire gamut from the traditional A-line to the vintage lace style. The traditional A-line flatters most body shapes and is thus deservedly very popular.

To co-ordinate both traditional and designer wedding gowns successfully the choice of complementary accessories is vital. Satin pumps, jewel encrusted veils, sparkling tiaras – the range of accessories is vast and includes blue laced garter for the important ‘something blue’.

Eggshell, ecru and ivory are just some of today’s popular choices of ‘white’. Additionally, in keeping with today’s civil wedding ceremonies, most brides will choose an off-white gown of modern style. Fashion trends often dictate the style chosen by the young modern bride wishing to veer away from the traditional style of ceremony. Designers such as Vera Wang and Maggie Sottero inspire girls with their contemporary collections often sought after by today’s bride. Challenges are being made to the traditional type of gown by modern hand sewn gowns in the latest fashion.

Whatever the design – modern or traditional – the dress must be compatible with the bride’s personality. Vera Wang’s statement about a woman never being sexier than when she’s comfortable in her clothes is so true for the day of your wedding.
