I haven’t been able to find any tasteful, yet affordable ideas. There are going to be about 10 round tables for guests and then longer tables for food and cake.
simple helium balloon arrangements are nice and inexpensive- gold and white balloon with a special 50th mylar balloon at the top with a gold balloon weight - sprinkle gold 50th confetti down the center of the tables with some small votive candles maybe placed around the table also. looks great because it draws the eye up and doesn’t block views across the tables also.
a small vase of flowers is pretty- tie a gold ribbon around each vase (dollar store or Good will has ton’s of nice vases) buy bulk flowers and equally divide them into the vases- use babies breath as fillers- place votive candles around the also- maybe a round mirror underneath to reflect light and sprinkle confetti also.
for the long cake and present tables get some white icicle lights and hang them underneath behind the table cloth- it looks really pretty.
and make a photo collage of all their photos throughout their 50 years together- I made one for my moms 60th and that was her favorite part showing off and telling everyone about all the pictures on it!

2009 Feb 02 1Most of the centerpieces I see available for 50th Anniversary are tacky looking, I think homemade is the way to go..
Violets are the 50th Anniversary flower and they would look nice as centerpieces, maybe dress them up with gold ribbons.
A double picture frame with "then and now" pictures of the couple would be nice also.
White candles on a gold plate are pretty, but I would change to white flowers in a vase with a gold rim or ribbon if the party is daytime.
Those are the only things I can think of right now, I also put a link below to some pretty nice centerpiece ideas, maybe you can find something there.
Hope I helped a little =)

2009 Feb 02 4Try floating a single flower (maybe a gerbera daisy) in a small glass bowl at each table and a few down the length of the longer tables. The round bowls were found for a dollar each at a craft store. One of my friends did this at her wedding and it was beautiful!

2009 Feb 02 5Round glass bowls or vases, with colored iridescent stones in the bottom (you can find bags of these at the dollar store, near the floral supplies) - with a fat gold candle in the center, for the smaller tables. Different sized taller glass vases with the stones, and gold tapers down the buffet tables. Maybe put a gold runner under those, or scatter gold confetti…..

2009 Feb 02 6I prefer personal decorations for this type of occasion. I would go to a discount store and buy some of those revolving photo frames that hold 4-6 photos each and put photos of the couple through the years in them. Copying photographs is so inexpensive, yet this would show thought and effort on your part. Try to have photos from different time periods in their marriage in each one. A wedding photo, first home, babies, retirement parties, etc… You don’t have to have totally differnet photos on each table, although it would entertain the guests to walk from table to table viewing the different ones. This would also facilitate mingling amongst the guests who don’t know everyone. You could place a doily under each one, or just sprinkle some confetti around them. Inexpensive, decorative, entertaining, and unique!

2009 Feb 02 7Even though it might be pricey. I would say white roses with baby breath. I think it would be beautiful.

2009 Feb 02 8What if you got a picture of the couple on their wedding. Then made copies of it. Then get a recent picture of them in the same pose. Make copies of that. Put them back to back and put a stick or skewer in the middle. Get some florist foam and some flowers. Use colors that compliment the picture. Place the flowers in the foam and then stick the picture right in the middle. You can also get some gold “50″ confetti to put around the pot. The pot could be spray painted gold, or I guess any color. If appropriate, get some chocolates of them same color scheme (whatever scheme you choose, gold is also good for 50th) and place them on the table This would be really good for the desert table.

2009 Feb 02 10I saw something really cool at a 50th birthday party that would probably work for an anniversary too. Make a collage of pictures of the couple throughout the years. Then get some copies made of the collage. Have them copy it onto rice paper or other opaque material (the people at the party I went to used thin opaque white plastic sheets). Then tape the ends together to form a tube. Put a votive in the center and you have a pretty cool luminary. You could even do a couple different versions and different ones on each table or have different sizes clustered together.

2009 Apr 01 13My aunt and uncle 50th had very elegant table centerpieces. There were all kinds of crystal vases, candy dishes, pedestal dishes and such anything crystal. Draped around the crystal were kinds of gold beads up and over and around with some gold accent items like gold balls or gold baskets –it was lovely.
