I am getting married on a riverboat, so I can't have glass items or candles. I am looking for any ideas that could be un-expensive (I'm spending plenty on this wedding already!) I will need 12 altogether. My best idea so far is orchids of different colors, in plastic pots ( My flower is purple orchids, it would be tough to match it) Thank you =)
i would say flowers and do flower pettles around it so it looks filled in?tuff call but worth it when u want what u want.

2009 Feb 16 2Okay, we are having a beach themed wedding. I went down to the mouth of the river and found some awesome driftwood. It was gnarled and bleached white. I have attatched some shells and starfish, they look really effective. In the middle of mine I am filling a glass with sand and shells and a tea light candle. This has only cost me the time to make and the glasses and candles (cheap as!)

2009 Feb 16 3If you can find them, they make these rotatable photo boxs made of plain clear plastic and put black and white pictures (maybe engagement pictures and candid pictures of the newlyweds) on all 4 sides you can make copies cheaply at walmart and if your orchid in plastic pots are small enough you can put it in the picture box

2009 Feb 16 4something beachy like shells, (or tuna sandwiches). go for an all beach theme tacky wedding with episodes of Gilligan's Island on a big screen in the background, or Titanic if you really want to freak your guests out. or I guess a river doesn't have shells so maybe just stick with flowers or Mark Twain novels.

2009 Feb 16 5Flower petals, piled high favor boxes, wrapped games box full of ice breakers for your guests - have them make you a wedding cake out of lego or any other wedding theme - maybe a boat as that fits with where you are!
You can now get fake tea lights which are battery operated, they flicker and are made of plastic. When you put them in a tea light holder you would be hard pushed to notice the difference.
More ideas are available on the link below.

2009 Feb 16 6having a line of river rocks through the middle of each table. Lay 3 plastic or real purle orchids along the rocks.
Line the middle of the table with wooden-stick looking table runners. Weave purple ribbon through the table runner here and there. Weave plastic or real purple orchids into the runner.
Use 3 very thin yet sturdy heavy based clear coloured plastic tube or bottles on each table in a line. Place river rocks around them, have one orchid in each.
Simply laying 2 orchids across eachother on each table will be stunning.

2009 Feb 16 7Im not sure if you are talking about real or fake orchids, and real ones will be mucho dinero…jus tin case you didnt know. I would suggest going to Joannes or another craft store and looking around, whenever I go there I get a million ideas for my wedding! Also can you find plastic that looks like glass like at target or the dollor store, etc, and float a two or three orchids in that, making sure to leave a few inches between the water and the top of the dish, of course. Good luck!

2009 Feb 16 8we made topiaries for centerpieces for a shower.. we use fake flowers so you could pick whatever colors you want.. the instructions we followed said to use pottery for the base but we chose metal buckets..
like this http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.petal-perfect.com/test/images/topiary.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.petal-perfect.com/test/florist_floral_samples.html&h=421&w=400&sz=32&hl=en&start=17&um=1&tbnid=EKA52YMorlQFBM:&tbnh=125&tbnw=119&prev=
but we made them ourselves so it was a lot cheaper than $50 each..

2009 Feb 16 9What we are doing is putting picture frames on each table (from the dollar store) and in the frame we are putting our favorite love saying and who they are by. Cheap and easy and interesting - some of my favorite saying are from Winnie the Pooh or movies.

2009 Feb 16 11I had everyone in our families give us pictures from their wedding days, in any frames they had. We set a few on each table and scattered flower petals around them. It was a very unique centerpiece, and cheap!

2009 Feb 16 13Hi and congratulations!
I like your idea, but orchids are expensive and with 12 tables, that could get pretty pricey.
Why not a simple flowering plant…or a non-flowing plant for that matter. Wrap it in pretty paper (purple?)
Look at this link….someone wanting the same thing:

Good luck!
