1. Get a couple dozen roses or whatever flowers you want ahead of time, and practice (believe me, the peace of mind is worth it). You can get a good idea of how long it’ll take, and how much help you’ll need.

2. Order your flowers in bulk from a reputable place. I did bulk roses from Costco.com. Or, you can just order them (unarranged) from a local florist and pick them up the day before the wedding.

3. Use the guidelines on eHow (link below). I followed these directions almost exactly, and my bouquets looked great! The only change I made was with the ribbon. Instead of tying the ends in a bow, I just folded them under and secured with pearl bouttoniere pins (just stick them straight into the bundle of stems). Viola!

Good luck, and kudos to you for saving money on your wedding! I was shocked when the florists tried to charge me $160 for a handheld bouquet. They hear the word “wedding,” and they automatically charge triple! I ended up spending $150 for 125 roses, which made 5 handheld bouquets and a bunch of extra centerpieces.
